finishing a blog post

When i start to type a blog post it usually takes me a while to think of something that's creative, whitty, and will be worth your time reading. There are many questions that I ask myself before simply sitting down and writing a blog post, like, what will people think? will people enjoy this, or is it just another waste of their time, or the final one is, what exciting thing is happening in my life that I really want to share with the world? most of the times this results in a short semi-pointless post about something random that's going on in my life. As for now, I should wrap this blog post up by saying that I am coming in for a landing on my second week of work, which rewarded me with my first paycheck ^_^ work should continue to get better as the weeks roll on. Eventually I would like to start my own wedding cinematography business with a friend, this should be very profitable and help me earn lots of money doing what I enjoy best, filming and creating a video. Time to log off as I am setting up a new computer, until next time

Day in the life of Brandon...down at the beach

Today, it's a wonderful day, hakhunamatada type day. I get to house sit for someone and watch their kid for the weekend, this involves however, spending the day down at huntinugton beach. I have about 5 hours left, hoping some friends will come down to hang out. Weather is nice considering it was a complete downpour of hail this morning, and it was overcast for most of the day. Sun's out, and life is good ^_^

Now this is blogging

When I started this blog, I always fantasized about the day when I would have a smartphone and be on the go blogging. Well, I started my blog from my 3G capable iPad, and just yesterday I signed up for a data plan. This month is more of a trial phase to see how well this plan will suit me as I am a data intensive person. Thus far, I have streamed about 30ish mins of YouTube videos, checked my Facebook and email regularly, researched camera and other gear I'll need for my future film. And I've only used about 200mb of my allotted 2gb. Which is pretty good, but this plan will need to last for the next 30 days. I figure once I get back home where everywhere I visit there is wifi, I won't need to use my 3G data as much. I will conclude this by saying if you have an iPad, which is 3G capable use it, it's extremely fast and is super nice to have.

Time to come home....literally

So, I returned from Cambodia about 3 days ago, but i feel that I need to legitimately come home. Friday my plane landed, mom picked me and my dad up from the airport, and we drove, not home, but straight to church to watch my sister's music mania performance. Now I know that I have quite the busy life style and I'm jumping right back into it, but I really feel that I need to spend more time at home, with my family, going over pics from Cambodia, telling all about my trip. The only thing that made me think this is one thing. Friday I got home, Saturday morning I went to men's breakfast, then at 11 went to go meet a friend for lunch, then I was gone for the rest of the day/night as I spend the night with 4 other friends. Sunday morning, I went to church (note to self, if you're gonna pull an all nighter, don't do it the day before church) then after church, I really wanted just to sleep, get caught up. When my mom informed me that we were going to see my friend Matthew Candela's play "singing in the rain" my first thought was "oh my gosh, I'm gonna have to text those who I ask to tell Matt how much I wanted to be there but wasn't gonna make it" then, the wise portion of my brain said "you need to sleep"... Wait that was a text from my friend Lexa. Anywho, I went to see the play, I'm really glad I did because I have not laughed sooooo hard at a play...ever. Once everything was said and done I was really ready to go home, but as you probably can guess, there was more for me to do. It was both my aunt's and cousin's birthdays while I was in Cambodia, so my grandparents were throwing a BBQ for them. It was a nice BBQ because I got to hang out with my cousin and aunt, but when 6:30 rolled around, I decided, that as much as I loved my family, I was finally suffering from my lack of sleep. So by 7:03 I was home, and asleep. Fast forward 16 hours, I wake up, look at my watch "11:00" really? I slept that long? To tired to get up I closed my eyes. What feels like not that much later I feel my mom shaking me saying "time to wake up, you need to at least be awake today so you can go back to sleep later. So after waking up at 12:00PM today, I went and checked up on some job applications, went back to my high school to pick some stuff (you have no idea how weird it is being there the first day of school after graduating), came home, work on job app stuff, and now at 8:30 I'm ready to be going to sleep. So there, in quite a while, I've explained why I feel that I need to literally come home, spend time with my family. Once that happns, life can return to normal

Cambodia Speechless practice days 1&2

Over the past couple days we have been working with the Cambodian people to teach them speechless. Day one, sunday night, about 25 people showed up to be part of the group learning speechless. Day two: Monday we started early in the morning teaching the youth speechless, we got through about 8 out of the 11 dramas we are teaching them. Day three: our second full day teaching them speechless, we went through the last 3 dramas, then had enough time to do a full run through of the entire program. God has been working many miracles on this trip.
1st the message of teaching them the dramas is coming across extremely fast and easy.
2nd even if the message gets across quickly, actually executing the dramas is completely different, and they have gone smoother than humanly possible.
3rd time, with all of our running around and worrying about not having enough time, God came through and allowed us to finish.....early, after all the math, we planned to be finished with all our dramas by 5:30 today, we were finished by 5:28. WOW God is truly amazing and working through us visibly.

Continue praying for our team as we spend the next couple days serving at the camp doing dishes, hanging out with the kids playing sports and getting stuff ready for speechless.

life in the past 48 hours

Ok, so we landed in Cambodia about 48ish hours ago, and we've had a pretty eventful two days. To begin, we had to take a 6 hour bus ride from the capitol city where we landed (Phenom Penh) to the city we're working in (Battanbang) along this 6 hour ride we had several things to keep us occupied. 1, we have to learn 11 words in Khmer so that we can communicate which pantomime we are working on with the Cambodians. 2, our missionaries the Goods put together a travel bingo page that they passed out to each of us to work on while we were on the trip. This bingo sheet included things like; 4< on a moto, two elephants, a "chicken truck", and many other strange objects. one of the objects on the list was 3 water buffalos in a group, this was quite a laugh for some of us because on our first trip to Cambodia in 2009, we were constantly trying to get a picture of a water buffalo because they were so rare. On this trip however, we were trying again to get a good picture of a water buffalo, and despite our efforts, it just seemed that there was some protection around water buffalos that kept them from getting their picture taken. Eventually our bus driver pulled over and stopped so we could get a good picture of one, which we were eternally grateful for ^_^ our third thing that kept us occupied on the bus was riddles and brain puzzles/games, ask me about them if you want a description. While I was showing Kent Good a little trick I know that involves tic-tac-toe he showed me a little game that the Cambodians play instead of tic-tac-toe it was pretty cool, ask me about it if you'd like to play. The final thing I'll put in this post is that we stopped for lunch at a restaurant and when they served the food, they gave us some fish, of which Michael Sciarra and Tim Ma ate their first fish heads, also at this place they had a cage with little alligators, they looked a bit like over grown lizards. Well, im a bit tired and I have too many notes to type them all up now, I'll try and finish everything else in the morning

WELCOME TO CAMBODIA

we have safely landed in Cambodia!! many people were extremely happy that the first place we got to eat at was the only dairy queen in Cambodia. After our cool treat, we piled onto our bus, and headed over to our hotel. the nicest feeling when arriving here is walking into your nice air conditioned room. This only lasted for a few minutes because we were off to the Russian market to get a quick taste of the Cambodian shopping culture. there is only a couple minutes for me to finish, I'll update more when we hit our next internet cafe, or I pick up an air card

seat 64B (C)

our 12.5 hour first leg of our travels to Cambodia are over, we're relaxing in the Taipei international airport. Our flight was pretty interesting, to begin with, when we were taking off, the overhead compartment above my seat popped open, we had to do our best to close it, without fully getting up and out of our seats. After the little excitement at take off, the flight was pretty much smooth sailing. I slept for the first 5 hours of the flight, which was good because it meant that I wasn't sitting there bored for the full 12 hours. The only other exciting thing about the flight was the landing, in which the plane felt like it was stepping down, it would drop a few feet, giving all the passengers on board that weightless feeling. Please pray for our team, as we realized that we left the laptop with all the speechless stuff and everything at LAX, we're doing our best to figure out how we're gonna do in place of not having it. continue to pray because we all know that apart from God's grace we can do nothing. 直到下一次 (until next time)

As I leave

Well, my blog hasn't failed yet, even though Im still only on day two ^_^ today has been a wonderful day, from all my work packing for my trip tonight, to getting my dad a new camera for his birthday. My heart is starting to pound almost out of my chest as I prepare for this journey, Im ready, but still have those as per usual jitters. my bags are almost packed, still have some stuff to put in my carry-on. I feel quite blessed though, I have a couple friends that are going to come see me off at the airport, that's dedication. I really enjoy having friends like that because it's cool to have people to come home to friends that in the case of one, I've known since 8th grade, and the other, well I just met him, but we're so much alike and we really understand each other, so we're extremely good friends. It's strange that words are coming as a challenge as I write this post, so it will probably be one of my posts that makes the least sense, but hopefully we'll have an eventful flight so I'll have a lot to write about when we land in Taiwan for our layover. Until then,

Preparing

Let me start my first blog post by saying this, pray that this blog lives past the first second or third post. Unlike my twitter, vimeo, and Google+ accounts, I hope to keep this blog up to date and use it to it's fullest to share what's going on in my life and how God is working in me. Preparing, that's the title of this because of two things, first and foremost, I'm preparing for my trip to Cambodia. Second, I'm preparing for my journey into adulthood, college, and work. Getting ready for Cambodia is what has inspired me to start this blog so I can keep all my friends and family back home informed as to how the trip is going. Second, I really like the concept of blogging because it allows me to share what's going on in my life without the 140 character limit that Facebook and twitter restrict one with. My final thoughts for this introductory blog post are two things. First, I must say I have horrible sentence structure and grammar, so I most likely won't make sense, and the second thing I like telling stories, but my trains of thought are more like a roller coaster of thought, changing direction on a dime and without warning. So please enjoy if you like what I'm posting, I'll send you to my YouTube page where I post random short videos I make in my spare time.
